analouge, surreal portraits
Collage for me is a way for us to see familiar things in new and dynamic ways.
I am drawn to the face, as it feels like a window to peoples souls and I take great pride and care when considering each piece. Repeating topics and themes in my work are fractured time, movement, daydreaming and an other-worldy/ surreal feeling.
I work primarily in analogue. This is because I have found I get far more interesting and dynamic compositions when I work like this.
It uses a different part of the brain than creating things digitally, where you may consider each step and work in a linear way. When I create with my hands it allows my mind to be quiet, which helps me to slip into more automatic or subconscious way of creating. I feel much more comfortable with the idea that the work comes through me and is not actually me.
In a world where everything is becoming digitally saturated, it is great to see the physicality of analogue collage. The rawness of analogue collage resonates with people because creating with your hands in a very physical and human act.
